Three Named to the Women's Tennis All-SCAC Team

Mary Cardone led three members of the Southwestern University Pirates women's tennis team named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) All-SCAC team.

The junior from San Antonio and 2017 SCAC Player of the Year was second in the conference in votes with 44 and led in first-place votes with three, trailing Trinity University's Caroline Kutach, who won the SCAC Player of the Year with 51 votes.

Individually, Cardone finished the season 16-1 in the No. 1 spot with wins over four nationally-ranked teams, including a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Kutach, who is ranked No. 43 nationally, in the SCAC Championship match. She was also 16-2 in doubles when paired with Mariana Quetzeri, and 18-3 overall.

Esther Bowers finished third in voting with 40, including one first-place vote. The sophomore from Kerrville, Texas was 17-1 individually, including 16-1 in the No. 2 spot and 1-0 in the No. 1 spot. She was 15-5 in doubles, including 13-4 in her most common pairing alongside Cecile Wilde.

Quetzeri finished seventh with 25 votes. The sophomore from Laredo, Texas finished the season with a 13-3 record, going 12-3 from the No. 3 spot and 1-0 in the No. 1 position. In doubles, she was 17-2, doing most of her work paired with Cardone with a 16-2 record, including 14-2 from the No. 2 spot, 1-0 in the No. 1 spot, and 1-0 in the No. 3 spot.

Nina Elez was listed as Honorable Mention, earning 13 votes.
