Women's Tennis Wins Final Match of Regular Season

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern University Pirates women's tennis player Stephanie Bartusov celebrated her birthday with a flawless performance in doubles and singles, helping the Pirates to a 9-0 victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Bartusov and Nina Elez defeated Emyleigh Johnson and Laurel Turco 8-0 in the No. 3 spot in doubles, with Mary Cardone and Mariana Quetzeri beating Alondra Torres Diaz and Shannon Kelly in the No. 2 spot while Esther Bowers and Cecile Wilde bested Alexandra Kyser and Payton Burk 8-1 in the No. 1.

"It was a great birthday gift for Stephanie to get a singles and doubles win, especially without dropping a game," Head Coach Billy Porter said. "Having Cece back was big and I thought she played well; as if she hadn't been away for a couple of days."

Wilde defeated Shannon Kelly in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-1. The Pirates did not drop a single game in the No. 1, 3, and 4 spots with Quetzeri defeating Kyser, Chandler Vrba defeating Burk, and Bartusov shutting out Johnson.

Sara Le won her match with Torres Diaz in the No. 5 spot and Isabel Candelario won a pair of 6-2 sets in the No. 6 spot.

"Isabel continues to stay on fire getting another solid win at the bottom of our lineup," Porter said.

With the win, the Pirates end the regular season 16-2. Southwestern will compete in the SCAC Championships hosted by Austin College in Sherman, Texas. The three-day tournament starts Friday, April 19 at 9 a.m.
