GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates women's tennis team took care of business at home, taking a 9-0 victory over Concordia Texas in the final home match before a long road trip.

Southwestern swept through singles and doubles in straight sets, highlighted by Mary Cardone, Nina Elez, and Cecile Wilde taking their singles matches 6-0 in each set.

"This is always a challenging week for matches with mid-terms and leaving for Spring Break but I thought the girls did an outstanding job of putting that aside for three hours to take care of business," Head Coach Billy Porter said.

Nina Elez and Stephanie Bartusov showcased their chemistry from the third spot in doubles as the Pirates won each of the three sets 8-1. In singles, Chandler Vrba took lessons learned from the practice courts to the match, defeating Genna Ellinwood 6-1, 6-1 in the sixth spot.

"Stephanie was very active at the net and was patient while Nina did a great job of setting her up from the baseline," Porter said. "We've made some changes with Chandler's forehand and she was fantastic with what we asked her to do."

With the win, the Pirates improved to 8-1 on the season. Southwestern will hit the road to participate in the Blue-Grey Invitational hosted by the University of Mary Washington from March 15-17 and will return home for a match against Wisconsin-Eau Claire on March 27 at 5:00 p.m.
