No. 23 Pirates Return Home and Roll LeTourneau

GEORGETOWN - The 23rd-ranked Southwestern University women's tennis team returned home for the first time since March 2nd as they welcomed in LeTourneau University to the Marvin D. Henderson Courts. The Pirates had no trouble, earning a 9-0 win on Friday evening.

Southwestern started things by rolling doubles as seniors Emilie Moeller and Julie Swets earned a convincing 8-0 win at three doubles followed by a dominated 8-1 win at two doubles by seniors Nicole Wilson and Maranda Kahl.

"Maranda's energy was at a good level today and she needed that to get back to her winning ways," said Head Coach Billy Porter.

Junior Anna Schneemann and sophomore Mary Cardone wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at one doubles.

In singles action, freshman Esther Bowers worked fast in a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win at three singles followed by freshman Mariana Quetzeri clinching the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. 

Junior Taite Drews-Jones earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles while Cardone earned a tough win in set one en route to a 6-4, 6-0 win at one singles.

"Getting Taite back into the win column was a must and she did so playing smart controlled tennis," said Porter. "Mary fought through a really tough first set and then refocused in the second set, doing everything we asked her to and got the win."

Sophomore Cecile Wilde earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at five singles while sophomore Stephanie Bartusov completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win at six singles.

Southwestern improves to 7-4 overall and returns to action on Wednesday as they welcome in Colby for a 5 PM match-up.
