No. 24 Women's Tennis Defeat Millsaps in Thriller

RICHARDSON, Texas - It came down to the final court, but the No. 24 ranked Southwestern University women's tennis team held off Millsaps for an exciting 5-4 victory on Saturday afternoon in Richardson.

Despite Millsaps taking a point at No. 1 doubles, the team of sophomore Mary Cardone and junior Anna Schneemann dominated to an 8-0 win while seniors Nicole Wilson and Julie Swets took an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles for the 2-1 victory.

Cardone and Schneemann carried their tremendous play in doubles over to singles as Cardone earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles while Schneemann was victorious 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Millsaps stormed back to take courts 1, 4, and 6 and even the match at four.

Freshman Mariana Quetzeri came up clutch at No. 5 singles, clinching the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Southwestern moves to 3-1 on the season. The Pirates will return home on Tuesday, and for the third time this season, attempt to take on Concordia (TX) with first serve scheduled for 5 PM.
