Women's tennis defeats Colorado College to advance to title match

KERRVILLE, Texas – The second-seeded Southwestern women's tennis team earned a 5-3 victory over No. 3-seed Colorado College in the semifinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday.

The Pirates (21-4), who won their 16th consecutive match, will meet top-seeded Trinity in the championship match at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Southwestern won two of three doubles matchups to take an early 2-1 advantage.

Maranda Kahl and Nicole Wilson started the match with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles. After the Tigers took the point at the top doubles position, Taite Drews-Jones and Jessey Martinez logged an 8-6 victory at the second spot.

Colorado College again pulled even with a win at the top singles spot.

However, the Pirates responded at the fourth position, as Martinez posted a 6-0, 6-4 win to reclaim the lead.

The Tigers earned a victory at the third spot to tie up the match, but Southwestern received a three-set victory by Anna Schneemann at the second position. Wilson then provided the clincher, as she rallied for a set down to post a 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 win.
