Southwestern rolls to seventh straight win on Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – In its first match as a regionally-ranked team, Southwestern claimed an 8-1 victory over Schreiner on Saturday at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts.

The Pirates (12-4), who entered the West Region rankings at No. 11 earlier this week, picked up triumphs at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to take an early advantage.

The two squads played competitive matches in singles action, including two tilts that went the distance.

Taste Drews-Jones, who is ranked 12th in the West Region, continued to roll in singles play, earning a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top spot.

Jessey Martinez extended Southwestern's lead to 4-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the fourth position.

Anna Schneemann, who also entered the regional rankings at No. 20 this week, picked up a straight-sets win at No. 2 singles to clinch the match.

Nicole Wilson needed all three sets to work past Kelsey Buczkowski at the fifth position. Julie Swets also went the distance at the third spot. Emilie Moeller then completed the singles sweep for the Pirates with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the sixth position.

Southwestern will return to action on Wednesday at Mary Hardin-Baylor. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
