Southwestern runs win streak to six after sweeping Howard Payne

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Southwestern University women's tennis team won its sixth straight match after cruising to a 9-0 victory over Howard Payne on Tuesday.

The Pirates (11-4) set the tone early with a sweep in doubles play to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

Taite Drews-Jones earned her fourth consecutive singles victory, as she trumped Brittony Walker at the top spot in straight sets (7-6 [7-4], 6-0).

Southwestern also won the other five singles matchups in straight sets.

Anna Schneemann won at the second spot, while Julie Swets was victorious at the third position.

Jesse Martinez picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.

Nicole Wilson and Emilie Moeller completed the sweep with triumphs at Nos. 5 and 6 singles.

The Pirates will host Schreiner on Saturday at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
