Southwestern earns fourth consecutive win on Wednesday

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Southwestern University women's tennis team won its fourth consecutive match on Wednesday, as the squad netted a 6-3 victory over Pacific (Ore.).

Southwestern (9-4) jumped out to a 2-1 lead following doubles action.

The Pirates took the advantage after Taite Drews-Jones and Jessey Martinez collected an 8-1 win at the second spot.

The Boxers (3-5), who are ranked 20th in the West Region, evened the contest with a victory at No. 1 doubles. However, Southwestern responded at the third position, as Maranda Kahl and Nicole Wilson earned an 8-2 win.

Martinez extended the Pirates' lead to 3-1 after she picked up a straight-sets (6-1, 6-0) win at No. 5 singles.

After Pacific received a win at the third position, Wilson finished off Kanani Kea in straight sets at the fourth spot to give SU a 4-2 advantage. Kahl then clinched the contest at the sixth position with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Carlee Rhodaback.

Drews-Jones added one more win for Southwestern with a three-set (3-6, 6-1, 6-3) win at the top spot.

The Pirates will return home to face Concordia Texas on Wednesday, March 23. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts.
