Southwestern captures 8-1 win over Rhodes on Tuesday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University women's tennis team returned to its winning ways Tuesday with an 8-1 victory over Rhodes at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts.

The Pirates (6-4) led 2-1 following doubles play and then captured all six singles tilts in the decisive win against their former conference foe.

Five of the six singles matchups were decided in straight sets.

Anna Schneemann posted a 6-4, 6-3 win at the top spot, while Jessey Martinez collected a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the third position. Nicole Wilson was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at No. 4 singles, while Maranda Kahl logged a 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) triumph at the fifth spot.

Julie Swets finished off the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) win over Anna Volkov at the second position.

Southwestern also received two wins via walkover.

The Pirates will resume action on Thursday, as the squad hosts Concordia Texas. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.
