Pirates split pair of matches on Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern women's tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts. The Pirates rolled to a 7-2 win over Sul Ross State, but were edged in the nightcap by East Texas Baptist, 5-4.

Southwestern (4-3) nearly pulled off a perfect day, but the Tigers rallied to win the the second contest. The Pirates led the match 4-1, but dropped the final four singles tilts.

Taste Drews-Jones continued her strong start to the dual-match season, as she won her only singles matchup and collected a pair of doubles wins.

Julie Swets earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over ETBU's Jabree McClaine at No. 4 singles. Marieke Visser and Emilie Moeller both registered straight sets victories in the Sul Ross State match at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, respectively.

Southwestern will continue its home stand on Saturday, March 5, as the squad hosts both Trinity (9 a.m.) and Hardin-Simmons (1:30 p.m.).
