GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern women's tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches Saturday. The Pirates swept LeTourneau, 9-0, but was edged by No. 36 Texas-Tyler, 5-4.
Taste Drews-Jones and Anna Schneemann both won two singles matches at the top two spots on the day to lead the way.
Southwestern will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 27, hosting both Sul Ross State (10 a.m.) and East Texas Baptist (4 p.m.).
In the opening match, the Pirates (3-2) surrendered only six games to the YellowJackets (0-3).
Marieke Visser posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Morgan Weaver at No. 6 singles. Julie Swets also logged a straight-sets win at the fourth position without giving up a game.
Meanwhile, Drews-Jones was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at the top spot and Schneemann earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the second position.

In the nightcap, Southwestern fell behind the Patriots after dropping all three doubles matchups.
However, Nicole Wilson logged a 6-0, 6-4 triumph at No. 4 singles to get the Pirates on the board.
After Texas-Tyler picked up another point at No. 3 singles, Southwestern earned wins at the top two spots by Drews-Jones and Schneeman to pull within 4-3. Swets then notched a straight-sets (6-1, 6-4) victory at the fifth position to tie the match.
Janae Warren clinched the contest for the Patriots with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Emilie Moeller at the sixth spot.
