Women’s tennis drops close quarterfinal match

Southwestern opened the 2015 SCAC Women's Tennis Championship as the #5 seed and were narrowly defeated by Texas Lutheran University 5-1 in the first round Friday.

TLU took and important 2-1 lead after doubles. Kali Rose/Nicole Wilson earned the only win, defeating Brooke Taylor/Megan Ingram 8-5.

Julie Swets was in a battle in #1 singles but was eventually defeated 6-4, 6-4 and Marieke Visser fell 6-2, 6-1 in #2 singles. Nicole Wilson was edged out after winning the first set 4-6, falling 6-1, 6-2 to end the match for the Pirates.

Southwestern falls to 11-7 after the loss and drop into the consolation bracket. They face Centenary College on Saturday at 9 am at East View High School.
