Pirate women take two of three on tennis courts

Southwestern defeated LeTourneau and East Texas Baptist before falling to nationally-ranked UT Tyler on Saturday afternoon in Tyler.

The Pirates won two of three doubles matches against ETBU on Friday and were in a battle in singles play but edged out the Tigers. Julie Swets won 6-3, 6-3 in #2 singles while Nicole Wilson and Kali Rose used extended sets to win in #4 and #5 singles respectively. Maranda Kahl sealed the deal with a 6-2, 6-0 win in #6 singles over Ellis.

Saturday morning the Pirates absolutely dominated LeTourneau, not dropping a single match the entire way. The closest the Yellow Jackets got were in #1 singles as Swets was forced to a third set tie breaker but pulled out the win 1-6, 6-4, 10-4.

UT Tyler quickly seized control in the final match of the day, defeating Southwestern 8-1, 8-5, 8-5 in doubles action. The Patriots took every single match in straight sets except for #5 singles where Rose defeated Hoover in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

Southwestern moves to 7-2 on the year and returns to action on Monday as they host St. Catherine at 3 p.m. at home.
