Tennis takes two from Austin College

Southwestern tennis continued their strong play despite limited practice opportunities due to the weather and defeated Austin College 9-0 on the men's side and 6-3 on the women's side on Saturday morning.

Doubles wins were the key for the women as Southwestern swept to start the match up 3-0. Julie Swets and Emilie Moeller won 8-6 in #1, Kali Rose and Nicole Wilson won 8-4 in #2 and Maranda Kahl and Virginia Stofer rolled in #3 8-2.

Austin College put up a fight, winning the first three singles matches, but Wilson (#4) won 6-3, 6-4, Rose (#5) 6-2, 6-2 over Lide and Kahl took #6 singles 6-1, 6-3.

Southwestern men dominated with easy wins in doubles. Grant Gideon and Nickoloz Snovely took down Ambulo/Meedsen 8-1, William Ellis and Rod Khansari defeated Kubena/Glasscock 8-2 and Sam McCready and Oliver Farmen won in #3 doubles, 8-2.

The big wins continued in singles play with Snovely setting the tone with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ambulo in #1 singles. Oliver Farmen followed suit, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Glasscock in #3 play and Neik Khansari did one better in #5 singles, defeating Oxenteiter 6-1, 6-0.

Ayinde Hall won needed three sets to win 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 over Meedsen in #2 singles, Grant Gideon won 6-2, 6-2 over Kubena in #4 play and David Strong defeated David Smith 6-3, 6-3 in #6.

Southwestern returns to the road to face East Texas Baptist on Friday, March 27th at 3 p.m.
