Southwestern women opened their spring dual match season in Kerrville, facing Schreiner University in the morning and Sul Ross State University in the afternoon. SU fell to Schreiner 5-4 before rebounding with an easy 9-0 win over the Lobos.
Schreiner swept women's doubles to set up a challenging comeback for the Pirates. SU was up to the challenge as Julie Sets won her #1 singles match 6-2, 6-4. Nicole Wilson won #4 singles 6-1, 6-1 to keep Southwestern on track and Maranda Kahl followed suit with a 6-1, 6-4 win in #6 singles over Knedlick. Kali Rose won her 5 singles match 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, but that is all the singles matches the Pirates would take as they fell 5-4 for the match.
In match two of the day, SU got off to a stronger start, winning two of three doubles. Rose/Wilson blanked Rogers/Griffin in #2 doubles as did Virginia Stover/Maranda Kahl in #3 doubles.
Marieke Visser fell in #1 singles 6-1, 6-2, but Southwestern swept the final five matches to secure the 7-2 win. Moeller edged out Schulz 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 and Ciere Mires won #3 singles 6-4, 6-4.
Southwestern comes home for the first time this spring to face Howard Payne University on Friday at 3 p.m.
