Pirate women finish impressive weekend at ITA Regional

SAN ANTONIO – An all Southwestern final Sunday highlighted the weekend for the Pirate women's tennis teams as the tandem of Julie Swets and Emilie Moeller knocked off Virginia Stofer and Nicole Wilson to win the B Draw Doubles Championship at the ITA Southwest Regional.

Swets and Moeller knocked off the No. 1 seed of Hunt/Bullock from Howard Payne, 8-1 and never looked back. The duo finished off their B Draw Championship in doubles with another 8-1 victory over teammates Stofer and Wilson.

Wilson and Moeller continued impressive weekends in singles play as well for Southwestern advancing to Sunday's final in the B Draw and A Draw Consolation, respectively.

Moeller marched to the A Draw Consolation Finals after a first round loss to Cheyenne Duncan of Trinity; however, the New Braunfels, native reeled off four straight wins before falling, 6-4, 6-1, in a tough match to Caroline White of Trinity.

Wilson marched to her B Draw Finals with four straight wins during the weekend as well with wins over opponents from Texas Lutheran, Schreiner, Trinity and LeTourneau. The first-year from Highland Village, Texas, fell in the finals to Abby Knedlik of Schreiner 6-3, 2-6, 10-4 for the runner-up finish.
