Pirate women falter in SCAC Semifinals

SAN ANTONIO – The Southwestern University women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker to Schreiner University Saturday falling 5-3 in the semifinals of the SCAC Women's Tennis Championships.

The Pirates jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles action with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.

However, the Mountaineers were able to shut the door on Southwestern in singles action. Schreiner took four of the five matches at the top of the lineup to close out the win. 

Gabby Hunt claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 2 position which was the only win for the Pirates in singles play. Hunt improved to 11-3 on the season in singles with the win and won her third straight.

Southwestern moves to the third place match on Sunday as they will face Colorado College at 8 a.m. The Pirates knocked off the Tigers last Sunday 5-4 in Georgetown.
