Pirate women rally for exciting 5-4 win over Colorado College

GEORGETOWN – A comeback effort from the bottom of the Southwestern women's tennis team's lineup helped the Pirates rally to a 5-4 win over Colorado College Sunday at the Henderson Tennis Courts.

The Pirates – ranked No. 19 in the ITA West Region Rankings – held on for its third one point win this season coming all against SCAC foes.

Heba Abdul and Marieke Visser teamed at No. 3 doubles to take a marathon 9-7 win. It was the Pirates only doubles point as they trailed the Tigers 2-1 going into singles action.

Gabby Hunt picked up the first point for the Pirates in singles action with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 2 position.

Southwestern got the final points in singles action as Marieke Visser came back to win at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Visser's win came just after Virginia Stofer had cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

With the match tied at 4-4 Heba Abdel clinched the final point for Southwestern earning a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.

The Pirates finished 5-0 against SCAC teams as they head into the weekend's SCAC Women's Tennis Championships in San Antonio hosted by Trinity University. Southwestern and Trinity did not face each other during the regular season.
