GEORGETOWN – It was a back and forth match Saturday morning that saw the Southwestern University women's tennis team come out on top 5-4 against Schreiner before falling in the afternoon to NCAA II Texas A&M-Kingsville 7-2.

Southwestern – ranked No. 19 in the region – improved to 7-4 with the split as Schreiner entered as the No. 18 team in the region.

The Pirates grabbed an early lead in doubles action as Gabby Hunt and Virginia Stofer teamed to post an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Teammates Marieke Visser and Heba Abdul followed them with an 8-3 win at the No. 3 position.

With a complete team effort throughout the entire Pirate lineup Gabby Hunt started off with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.

Virginia Stofer helped put Southwestern just a point away from clinching the match with a 7-6, 6-1 win at the No. 6 position. After Stofer's win Marieke Visser helped close out the Mountaineers with a 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 win to clinch an important region win for the Pirates.

In the afternoon the Pirates got their first doubles point from Visser and Abdul at No. 3 doubles.

Southwestern would pick up just one more point in singles action as Stofer claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. The two point loss for the Pirates came after an emotional morning win over Schreiner.

The Pirates close out the regular season next Sunday when they host Colorado College. It will be the final match of the regular season before heading to San Antonio April 25-26 for the SCAC Championships.
