Patriots shutout Pirates in first loss of 2014

TYLER, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler blanked the Southwestern University women's tennis team 9-0 Saturday in a non-conference battle.

The Pirates fell to 2-1 on the year as the Patriots – ranked No. 13 in the region – cruised to the win.

Marieke Visser won the only set before falling 2-6, 6-1, 11-9 to Haley Albro at No. 4 singles.

Senior Aimee Blake dropped her first match of the year falling at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles Virginia Stofer and Gabby Hunt fell 8-2 at the No. 2 position before UT-Tyler swept all three doubles points.

The Pirates return to the court next weekend against Louisiana College on Saturday before traveling to SCAC foe Austin College on Sunday.
