GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern women's tennis took on tough competition, going 0-3 over the week at home.
The Pirates started off with St. Catherine and dropped all matches, falling 9-0 on Wednesday. Aimee Blake/Elizabeth Ellis (#1) fell 8-0 and Marieke Visser/Sarah Johnson (#2) lost 8-4 while Gabby Hunt/Kristina Krampitz (#3) nearly won their match, falling in extra sets 9-7.
Singles play didn't go the way of Southwestern as no Pirate was able to capture a win. Visser came close as she fell in a tie breaker set in #4 singles 6-0, 2-6, 10-3.
SU next faced Lewis & Clark on Thursday. Lewis & Clark took control early, winning 8-2, 8-2, 8-4 in doubles matches. Southwestern was never able to get going as they dropped all six singles matches, winning no more than two sets in each match.
Southwestern closed out the week against Mary Hardin-Baylor and fared better despite still losing. The Pirates won one of three doubles matches with Johnson and Visser winning their #2 doubles match 8-5. Visser continued her winning way with a singles victory over Bilbo 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 in #4 singles. Ellis followed suit in #5 singles with a 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 win over Juaneza.
That is as much of a comeback as SU could orchestrate as they dropped the match 6-3.
Southwestern falls to 4-4 on the year with the losses. They return to action on April 4th as they host Southeastern Oklahoma beginning at 3 p.m. in Georgetown.
