Comets Defeat Pirates in Non-Conference Match

GEORGETOWN, Texas - In their final home match of the season the Southwestern women's tennis team fell 8-1 to the University of Texas Dallas on Saturday afternoon. 

The Pirates opened up action with double play and were defeated in all three matches. Victoria DeLeon and Aimee Blake almost kept the sweep from happening in #2 doubles, but were beat out in the end falling 9-8. Elyse Bigler and Jessica Gaines fell 8-4 in #1 doubles and Abigail Sedory and Kindall Hogenson lost 8-0 in #3 doubles. 

In singles play Southwestern was unable to get on a roll to make a comeback bid. Gaines got the only win of the day for SU in #3 singles, defeating Tan 6-3, 6-4. Virginia Stofer was just one point away from taking the first set of her match, but fell 7-6, and dropped her second set 6-2 to keep the Pirates from their second win. 

Southwestern has one final tune-up match before the SCAC Championships. They head to Belton, Texas to face the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday at 4 p.m.
