Women's Tennis Rolls in San Antonio

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern women's tennis just gets stronger as the season progresses, winning two of three matches at the SCAC Crossover this weekend to improve to 7-5 overall and 5-1 against conference opponents. 

The Pirates opened with a big win over Austin College 8-1. SU swept doubles matches, winning 9-8, 8-1, 8-2 and continued to dominate in singles play. Victoria DeLeon cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win in #1 singles, Jessica Gaines took down Watt in #3 singles 6-1, 6-1 and Aimee Blake defeated Berger 6-1, 6-3 in #4 singles. Kindall Hogenson and Virgina Stofer closed out the win with easy victories in #5 and #6 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-0. 

Day two pitted Southwestern against power-house Trinity. Southwestern put up a good fight but ultimately fell 8-1. Stofer kept the Pirates from being shutout in the match, winning #6 singles 2-6, 6-1, 11-9. Blake was narrowly defeated in #4 singles, falling in a tie breaker 4-6, 6-0, 10-6.

For the final match of the tournament for SU the Pirates took on the Tigers of Colorado College. The Pirates got off to a rocky start, winning just one of three doubles matches. Hogenson and Abigail Sedory took down Bush/Sweeney 8-5 in #3 doubles. 

SU turned things around in singles matches, starting with Eleyse Bigler's win 6-3, 7-5 over Patterson in #2 singles. Gaines kept the momentum going in #4 singles with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Criss and Blake took down Bush with a dominating third set, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Stofer's 7-6, 6-1 win over Harwood in #6 singles secured the 5-4 victory over Colorado College.

The Pirates remain deep in action as they host Gustavus Adolphus at home on Monday.
