Women's Tennis Starts Strong Against ASC Teams

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern Pirates women's tennis team moves to 2-2 on the year after taking on members of the American Southwest Conference. The 'Bucs squeaked past Howard Payne, rolled over LeTourneau, and fell to the University of Texas-Tyler in their first three matches.

Howard Payne was the women's tennis team's first opponent of the ASC/SCAC crossover weekend in Tyler, Texas. The Pirates had a rough start dropping two of their three opening doubles matches. Partners Jessica Gaines and Elyse Bigler notched an 8-5 win for the Pirates. During singles play, the Pirates won four of their six matches improving them to a 5-4 win on the day. Bigler, Gaines, Aimee Blake, and Kristina Krampitz each earned wins to help give the 'Bucs their first win of the semester.

Against LeTourneau, the Pirates swept their doubles matches moving them to 3-0 for the day. Gaines/Bigler, Victoria DeLeon/Blake, and Abigail Sedory/Virgina Stofer all contributed with their dominating doubles play. During singles match-ups, wins from Gaines, Blake, and Stofer put the Pirates at 6-3 on the day for the win over LeTourneau.

For the last match of the weekend, the 'Bucs fell to a tough UT-Tyler team. The Pirates were on the losing end of all their matches that day, falling to Tyler 0-9. This loss puts them at 2-1 for the semester and 2-2 on the year.

Women's tennis will face Huntingdon on Friday, March 2ndat 3 PM at the Marvin D. Henderson, Sr. Tennis Courts at Southwestern University for a non-conference match-up.
