Doubles Matches Lead to Women's Tennis Defeat

WACO, Texas- The Southwestern women's tennis team split singles action but dropped two of three doubles matches to fall 5-4 to Austin College on Saturday afternoon.

Southwestern's Elyse Bigler (pictured) defeated McDonald 7-5, 6-3 in #2 singles and Amiee Blake defeated Madison 6-3, 7-5 in the #4 slot while Abigail Sedory won the third set tie-breaker to take down Harvey in #6 singles too keep the score even after singles action. Victoria DeLeon fell 7-5, 6-1 in #1 singles, Jessica Gaines lost in a third set tie-breaker 2-6, 6-0, 10-6 and Kristina Kramptiz dropped her match 6-4, 7-6 to put the score at 3-3 after singles.

Gaines/Bigler teamed up and were narrowly defeated by Flint/McDonald in #1 doubles 8-6. DeLeon and Blake made quick work of Edwards/Berger 8-2 while Krampitz/Sedory was defeated 8-3 giving Austin College the fifth and game winning point.

The match was a warm-up for the Pirates' next competiton, the ITA Regional tournament in Tyler, Texas beginning on Friday, September 23rd.
