Women's Swim Team Continues Records in First Day of SCAC Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- For the third straight year in a row, the Southwestern women's swim and dive team placed first in the 200-yard medley relay.

In the first day of the Southern Athletic Collegiate Conference(SCAC) Swim & Dive Championships, two relay races took place where the Southwestern women's swim came out on top.

Emma Frey, Rehgan Hartsell, Jesse Stovall, and Catherine Hiebel finished with the fastest time of 1:47.42, beating out Trinity University, who's women finished with a time of 1:48.40 in the 200-yard medley relay.

In the women's 800-yard freestyle relay, Trinity was able to snag first place over the Pirates but Hartsell, Stovall, Natalie Gierat and Frey were able to seal runner up with a time of 7:49.11 which breaks the current Southwestern 800-yard freestyle record for women's swim.

Southwestern ended the day with 102 points for the women's team coming second to Trinity, with 110 points, Colorado College with 88 points, Centenary College with 80 points, Austin College with 72 points, McMurry with 60 points and Ozarks with 52 points.  

Up next,  swimming preliminaries will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. followed by the finals at 6:00 p.m. The diving events are on the slate February 14-15 at approximately 1:15 p.m., following swimming preliminaries.
