Pirate Squads Sit in Second After First Day of SCAC Championships

THE COLONY, Texas - The Southwestern University swimming and diving team sit in second place after the first night of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the Lewisville Eastside Aquatic Center.

Both teams currently trail Trinity University with the men checking in with 104 points, only trailing the Tigers by four, while the women check in with 96 points. Colorado College sits in third place on both sides.

On the women's side, freshman Kate Russell, freshman Rehgan Hartsell, junior Cara Chin, and junior Erika Dubros were victorious in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.11, a new school record, holding off second place Trinity by .06 seconds. 

The team of Hartsell, Russell, senior Taylor Adams, and freshman Breely Peterson placed third in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:56.63, setting their second school record of the night.

On the men's side, the Pirates took home a pair of second place finishes in the relay events as the team of senior Michael Glover, senior Mickey Scharbrough, freshman Dylan Neumann, and freshman Mario Foltz finished the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.35.

The team of junior Peter Robinson, Glover, Neumann, and sophomore Todd Coachman finished the 800 free relay with a time of 6:59.73.

It will be a full day of action tomorrow morning and evening at the SCAC Championships beginning with prelims at 10:30 in the morning and the finals at 6 p.m. for the 200 free relay, the 500 free, the 200 individual medley, and the 50 free.
