Softball Wins Second Game of Doubleheader Against Dallas

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates swept its doubleheader against the University of Dallas Crusaders with a pair of shutouts, winning Game 2 5-0.

Southwestern plated three runs in the bottom of the first off four hits and an error. Tori Montemayor hit a leadoff single to center and Jordan Farber reached on a throwing error by third baseman Julie Duenas, putting runners on second and third. Kaitlynn Copher followed with a two-RBI double to right-center, scoring both.

Katie Bricarell singled to right-center, putting runners on the corners and Maddie Mefford hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Copher to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead.

Southwestern added an unearned run on back-to-back errors with two outs in the second with Farber reaching on an error and advancing to second, then scoring when Copher reached on another error.

The Pirates added another run in the bottom of the fourth when Bricarell sent a rocket back to the pitcher's circle, ricocheting off Maggie Watts' leg to score Montemayor.

Bailey Meyer started in the pitcher's circle for the Pirates, throwing a complete-game shutout with four hits and four walks given up while striking out seven.

Bricarell finished 3-for-4 with a RBI and Copher hit 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. The Pirates finished with 11 hits, taking advantage of three Dallas errors.

With the win, Southwestern improved to 31-4 and 16-3 in conference play. The Pirates will finish the regular season and four-game series with Dallas in a doubleheader tomorrow. Game time is scheduled for noon with a ceremony to honor seniors before the game.
