Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Schreiner
GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Southwestern softball came out victorious in the doubleheader Friday evening, starting the Pirates series against the Schreiner Mountaineers 8-2 and 11-6. 
 
Standout players, Katie Bricarell hit two home runs, pitcher Lindsey Longuet threw a total of five strikeouts as both games combined 10 strikeouts for the Pirates. Pirates shortstop, Celeste Silvas also combined eight total runs, averaging four runs in each game. 
 
In the first game, both Mountaineers and Pirates started slowly with scoring runs. In the first inning, the Pirates were the first to score with Silvas stealing a run off of an error. In the second inning, the Mountaineers were able to score two runs off a far hit to left field. 
 
Bricarell would answer back for the Pirates with a home run to also bring in Kaitlynn Copher for two runs. The rest of the fourth and fifth inning the Mountaineers and Pirates could not score any runs, however, in the bottom of the sixth inning the Pirates loaded on the bases, were able to score a total of five runs ending the first game 8-2. 
 
In the second game, the Mountaineers started the top of the first inning with five runs on a home run by Alyssa Maki. The Pirates only scored one run in the first inning but were able to score three more runs in the second and leave the Mountaineers runless to make the Pirates one run behind Schreiner. 
 
It would not be until the fourth inning that the Pirates were able to get the lead over the Mountaineers with Bricarell once again hitting a home run and allowing Copher to score another run. In the fifth and sixth innings, the Mountaineers would be held scoreless while the Pirates were able to score three more runs, ending the game 11-6. 
 
The Pirates continue the series against Schreiner Saturday, March 9, at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. in Georgetown.
