Softball Drops Doubleheader at No. 2 Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas - The Southwestern University softball team fell short to No. 2 ranked Texas Lutheran, dropping the doubleheader to the Bulldogs 5-2 and 5-1, in SCAC play on Friday afternoon at Ed Kruse Stadium.

The Bulldogs scored runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead, but Southwestern responded with two of their own in the third, scoring on a Bulldog error followed by a RBI single from freshman Grace Phelps to tie the game at two.

Texas Lutheran bounced back to put the game away in the fourth, scoring three in the inning to move ahead 5-2 as the pitching did the rest, holding any more Pirate rallies for the game one win.

Phelps was 1-for-3 with a run scored while junior Celeste Silvas was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Freshman Jordan Farber added a run scored as well as a stolen base. Sophomore Lindsey Longuet (L, 3-3) took the loss in the circle, pitching six complete and allowing four earned runs on four hits.

In game two, TLU opened up a five run lead after three innings of play. Despite out hitting the Bulldogs 7-1, Southwestern could only muster one run in the fourth inning on a RBI single by sophomore Sydney Scott

Scott finished 1-for-4 with a RBI while sophomore Izzy Jack was 2-for-2. Silvas added a two hit day while sophomore Mary Alex Krosby had a run scored. Sophomore Nadia Netek (L, 5-4) went three complete, allowing four runs on four hits. Sophomore Bailey Meyer was excellent in relief, pitching three innings and only allowing on hit to go with two strikeouts.

Southwestern moves to 17-12 overall and 6-8 in the SCAC

The two teams will conclude the series tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader, but this time will have a change of scenery. The teams will meet in Georgetown at Taylor-Sanders Field beginning at 1 PM.
