Six run fifth lifts Pirates to SCAC Championship win

SEGUIN, Texas – Trinity jumped on the board early but the Pirates unloaded six runs in the fifth inning and went on to defeat the Tigers 9-3 to advance to the SCAC Semifinals.

TU shocked Southwestern with three runs in the first inning but Southwestern got back two in the bottom half of the frame. Southwestern added one in the third before unloading sixth in the fifth. Southwestern's defense was top notch after the opening inning, holding Trinity scoreless in the final six innings to secure the win.

Taylor Curtis went 4-4 at the plate with two RBIs and two doubles while Kaitlynn Copher went 3-4. Lindsey Longuet earned the win on the mound, allowing three earned runs and three walks.

The Pirates advance to face Texas Lutheran University at 2 pm on Saturday in the SCAC Semifinal.
