Southwestern splits Tuesday home doubleheader against HSU

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons orchestrated late-game rallies in each game on Tuesday but the Pirates fended off one to split Tuesday's games 6-5 and 1-11.

Southwestern posted the first run of the game in the first and then followed with a four-run third to lead 5-2 early. HSU hung close and the Pirates took the win with a play at the plate after a run down.

Nadia Netek earned her first win of the year with 5.2 innings of work with four strikeouts and eight hits. Amelia Fuchs led at the plate going 2-3 including a homerun and one RBI while Paige McShan drove in two runs.

A tight game two gave way to a run-rule loss for SU after the Cowgirls added nine runs in the sixth. HSU led the entire game with two runs in the second and Southwestern pulled within one with a one-run third. It was scoreless the rest of the way until Hardin-Simmons ripped the game wide open.

Sydney Scott was 1-3 and drove in SU's only run of the game while three other Pirates also notched one hit.

Southwestern (1-3) remains in the middle of their season opening home stand to host Millsaps College on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
