Softball survives to advance in SCAC Championship

Dallas rallied to pull within two runs of the Pirates but Southwestern closed out the game for an 8-6 win in the consolation bracket of the SCAC Championship in Kerrville.

SU had a commanding lead with three runs in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth to lead 8-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

A scrappy Dallas team took a huge chunk out of the deficit with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, cutting SU's lead to just two, 8-6.

Southwestern posted 11 hits in the game with six Pirates notching two hits. The Pirates were also able to capitalize off eight Crusader errors.

Cozette Palmer earned the win in 6.1 innings of work, allowing three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out seven.

The win keeps the Pirates alive in the Championship as they advance to face the winner of the Schreiner/Austin College game. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
