Trinity posted 21 hits in two games to hand Southwestern a pair of losses 8-0, 7-4 at home Saturday.

In the second inning Trinity took a commanding lead with six runs and added two more in the fourth while holding the Pirates scoreless despite six hits in the run-rule loss.

Marissa Irvin and Ally Holland both went 2-2 in game one. Cozette Palmer suffered the loss after just one inning of work, allowing three runs on two hits.

Trinity rode the momentum right into game two, scoring two runs in the each of the first three innings to lead 6-0. Southwestern punched back this time, however, and scored three runs in the bottom of the third to cut TU's lead to three, 6-3.

Trinity pushed one more across in the fifth and were just three outs away from sealing the win. Southwestern made a strong attempt to uproot those plans, but the comeback was cut short after SU scored two in the seventh.

Irvin was the only Pirate to record multiple hits, going 2-4 from the plate while Caroline Young drove in three runs. Alyssa Novander suffered the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in 1.1 innings.

Southwestern falls to 16-19 on the year and 12-9 in the SCAC but remain in second place in the conference. Trinity improves to 16-16 overall and 10-9 in conference play.

The two teams finish their series on Sunday with a double-header beginning at noon.
