Pirates complete SCAC opener sweep

With a pair of wins on Sunday Southwestern softball opened their conference season and completed the sweep over Schreiner with 6-2, 5-1 wins.

Schreiner was the first to score again in game one but Southwestern responded with one run in the second and third before posting four in the fourth. With some breathing room, SU closed out the win behind the arm of Alyssa Novander who allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out three and walking two.

Southwestern posted 12 hits in the win including a 4-4 outing from Stacy Rosengren who was lights out this weekend. Sydney Oorlog and Marissa Irvin had two hits each.

In game two Southwestern wasted no time getting on the board with three runs in the first and confidently cruised to the win. Schreiner had a short spurt in the seventh that kept the Pirates on their toes, but Oorlog secured the final out on a shot down the left field line.

Palmer secured the complete game win, allowing just three hits and one unearned run while striking out one and walking three. Oorlog was the only Pirate with multiple hits, going 2-3 from the plate with two RBIs.

Southwestern improves to 8-10 on the year and 4-0 in the SCAC while Schreiner falls to 3-9 overall and 3-5 in conference action. SU returns to the road to face Centenary College for a four game series in Shreveport beginning on Saturday at 1 p.m.
