Southwestern earned their first victory of the season, a 3-1 win over Mary Hardin Baylor in game two after dropping game one 8-2 in Belton Saturday.

Mary Hardin-Baylor opened the scoring in the second inning game one, posting two runs, but Southwestern evened the count in the top of the fourth with one run coming from Taylor Curtis' RBI single.

UMHB got hot in the bottom half of the inning, however, and posted six runs on six hits to lead 8-2 through four.

Southwestern wasn't able to get much going offensively throughout the rest of the game, falling 8-2 in game one. Cozette Palmer garnered the loss, allowing eight runs, five earned, on eight hits with one walk in 3.2 innings. Curtis went 2-2 with one RBI and one run scored to lead SU at the plate.

In game two, Southwestern jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Berkeley Bacon hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Michele Ramos.

Bacon kicked off the third with a homerun to put the Pirates on top 2-0, but UMHB managed to push one across in the bottom of the third.

Southwestern added an insurance run in the seventh and their defense was in full control as the Pirates allowed just one hit in the final four innings to secure the 3-1 win.

Palmer earned the win, her first of the season, allowing just two hits and one run in 2 innings. Bacon was 1-2 on the afternoon with 2 RBIs and Ally Holland went 2-3.

Southwestern moves to 1-5 on the year while UMHB opens their season at 1-1. The Pirates hit the road again to face Howard Payne University on Wednesday at 1pm.
