Pirates out-hit Tigers but fall 6-1

 

SEGUIN, Texas – Southwestern out-hit Trinity 9-8 on Friday evening but lost the game 6-1 to fall into the loser's bracket of the SCAC Tournament.

Trinity led early with one run in the first and then posted three in the third to lead 4-0. Southwestern's bats were effective as the Pirates loaded the bases twice before actually seeing their first run on the board. Ashleigh Scott led off the fifth with a stand-up double to centerfield and Tessa Galloway followed it up with a single to left to bring home Scott for the first Pirate run.

The Tigers got the run back, however, In the bottom of the fifth and held Southwestern scoreless the rest of the way to fall into the loser's bracket with the 6-1 loss.

Starting pitcher Nicole Gibbs garnered the loss. In 2.1 innings of work she allowed four runs on four hits while walking three. Cozette Palmer was tough in relief, allowing two runs on four hits while walking one and striking out two.

At the plate, Tessa Galloway led the charge with a 3-4 afternoon and recorded the only RBI of the contest for the Pirates. Lindsy Biggers also posted a multi-hit game with two singles.

The loss drops SU to 16-19-1 on the year as they fall into the loser's bracket of the tournament. They face Schreiner University at noon tomorrow in their first elimination game of the Championship.
