Softball closes regular season with split

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Pirates won 1-0 in game one before falling 3-0 to Trinity in game two to end the regular season.

Southwestern posted one run in the top of the first and proved to be the game winner in game one. Karen Ramirez singled through the left side with one out and advanced to third on the play. Tessa Galloway brought her home with two outs with a double to left field to put SU up 1-0.

Nicole Gibbs was outstanding on the mound as was the Pirate defense, scattering five hits for the shutout. Ramirez went 3-4 in game one and scored the game winning run.

Southwestern struggled to replicate the magic in game two, posting just two hits in the game. Defensively, SU remained tough as starting pitcher Cozette Palmer was tough on the mound, allowing two earned runs on six hits. TU posted two runs in the third and one in the sixth to give Southwestern the 3-0 loss to close the regular season.

The Pirates move to 15-19-1 on the year and 11-9 in the SCAC while Trinity improves to 23-16 overall and 18-6 in conference action. Southwestern enters the conference tournament next weekend as the #3 seed. Game times and match-ups will be released on Monday.
