Softball drops twin bill at Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Trinity scored runs in the first inning of each game to hand the Pirates two losses 1-0 and 7-3 on Friday.

Trinity scored one run in the first inning and was all they needed to defeat Southwestern in game one. SU's bats were stifled as they managed just two hits in the loss, one each from Tessa Galloway and Marissa Irvin.

Nicole Gibbs continued her strong performances on the mound despite garnering the loss. She faced 24 batters and allowed just one unearned run on four hits and walking only one.

Two runs in the bottom of the first inning game Trinity an early lead in game two, but Southwestern had a response and briefly took the lead with a three run third.

Trinity quickly answered, however, as they scored two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth while holding the Pirates off the base paths the rest of the way.

Galloway led at the plate with two RBI's for Southwestern while Cozette Palmer garnered the loss. In five innings of work she allowed four runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out three.

Southwestern falls to 14-18-1 on the year and 10-8 in the SCAC while Trinity improves to 22-15 overall and 17-5 in conference play. The two teams square off again for the final regular season double header of the year on Saturday. First pitch is set for noon.
