Gibbs' no-hitter highlights day two split

GEORGETOWN, Texas – For the second time this season, first-year Nicole Gibbs posted a no-hitter as the Pirates won 9-0 in five after dropping game one 6-0 to Austin College.

Austin College opened day two as they began day one, taking a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run over the left field fence in the second inning. The 'Roos continued their hard hitting in the third, pushing two runs home and added two more in the fourth to lead 6-0.

Southwestern just wasn't able to get anything going at the plate as they stranded seven base runners.

Nicole Gibbs garnered the loss with 2.2 innings of work. Stacy Rosengren was the only Pirate with multiple hits in game one, going 2-3 from the plate.

After a scoreless first to start game two, the Pirates were the first on the board as Michele Ramos brought home Rosengren with a chopper to short with one out.

Back to back doubles from Karen Ramirez and Tessa Galloway to start the bottom of the third posted another run on the board to put the Pirates up 2-0. An error with two outs in the inning allowed two more runs to score and increased Southwestern's lead to 4-0 at the end of three.

Ramos hit a laser to Pollard at second with the bases loaded with no outs to drive home two runs and pinch hitter Tori Vasquez brought home one more on a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Southwestern put the icing on the cake in the bottom of the fifth with five runs, capped off by Christina Crandall's two run bomb to left field to give Southwestern the 9-0 run rule win.

Gibbs was sensational in game two, allowing no runs or hits while walking four, earning her seventh win of the season. Rosengren went 2-2 from the plate and scored three times to lead the way offensively for the Pirates.

Three seniors, Ramirez, Galloway, and Kayla Irvin were honored for their outstanding careers at Southwestern as they played their final home games.

Southwestern improves to 14-15-1 on the year and 10-6 in the SCAC, ensuring them the #3 seed at the conference tournament in two weeks. The Pirates close out the regular season in San Antonio next weekend, facing Trinity for a four game series.
