Southwestern Dominates Dallas

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern closed out the series with the University of Dallas in convincing fashion, winning 13-3 and 15-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Karen Ramirez led off the bottom of the 1st and reached base after being hit by a pitch.  She advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third on a single to left field by Ashleigh ScottTessa Galloway drove in Ramirez for the first run of the game on a single down the left field line.  Then Kayla Irvin singled through the left side to load the bases for the Bucs.  A pair of RBI singles by Stacy Rosengren and Michelle Ramos gave SU an early 3-0 lead.

In the 2nd, Ramirez reached on an error and scored on a stand up triple to right field by Scott.  Then Scott scored on a single to left center by Galloway to extend the Pirates' lead to 5-0.

Linsay Biggers led off the bottom of the 3rd with a slap single to the pitcher.  O'Connor followed with a bloop single to left field.  The runners advanced to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by Ramirez.  Two runs scored on a single through the left side by Scott to make it 7-0.

UD's Castro led off the top of the 4th with a bloop single to center field.  She moved up to second on a single up the middle by Garcia.  The Crusaders loaded the bases on a bunt single towards third base by Frazier.  Then Alsup drove in a run on a ground out to the shortstop.  Northern was hit by a pitch to load the bases again.  Seifert reached on a fielder's choice as the Pirates opted to get the out at home plate.  Pitcher Kelsey Kingston got out of the jam with a strikeout to hold UD to one run and keep it to 7-1.

The Pirates offense caught fire in the bottom of the 4th inning, scoring 6 runs on 6 hits and an error to take a commanding 13-1 lead.

However, the Crusaders would continue to fight back.  In the top of the 5th, Begle led off with a bloop single to left field and advanced to second on a bunt by Fairbanks.  Castro followed with a two run homer to left to make it a 13-3 game.  Southwestern was able to end the threat and secure the victory in game one of the doubleheader.

In game two, Ramirez led off for Southwestern with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Scott.  Then Galloway lined out to the shortstop and Ramirez looked like she would be doubled up.  However, the ball got away from the second baseman and Ramirez tagged and went to third on the play.  Irvin followed with a RBI double down the left field line and later took third on a wild pitch.  The Pirates loaded the bases after Stacy Rosengren was hit by a pitch and Jessica Bryant beat out a single to third base.  Two more runs scored on a single by Ramos to put SU up 3-0.

O'Connor led off the 2nd with a single through the left side and took second on a wild pitch.  Ramirez followed with a walk.  Both runners advanced on a ground out to second by Scott.  O'Connor scored on a single down the left field line by Galloway.  Then Irvin drew a walk to load the bases and Rosengren cleared them with a grand slam to center field.  The runs kept coming as the Pirates amassed 10 in the inning to go up 13-0.

Southwestern scored 2 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning and kept UD at bay to earn the 15-0 win.

Kelsey Kingston pitched well in both starts and earned a pair of victories for the Pirates.  The offense exploded for 28 runs combined in the Sunday doubleheader.  Southwestern moves to 24-8 overall and are 7-1 in conference.

The team travels to Austin College for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13th, with game one set to start at 1:00pm.
