Walk-off Homerun Sinks Pirates

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana – Cadie Hancock hit a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Centenary past Southwestern 10-7.

The Pirates got off to good start and took the early 2-0 lead on the road.  Kayla Irvin and Tessa Galloway both scored on a double down the left field line by Jessica Bryant.  In the bottom half of the first, Centenary responded with a RBI single up the middle by Whitney Patterson to cut it a 2-1 game.

The home team jumped out to a 5-2 advantage, with a run in the third and added three more in the fourth.

Southwestern fought back in the top of the sixth inning.  Michelle Ramos scored on an Abigail O'Connor single to right field to close the gap to 5-3.  However, Centenary countered again in the bottom of the frame on a 2 RBI double by Lindsey Sconce to extend the home lead to 7-3.

The Pirates rallied in their last at-bats to tie the game.  Ashleigh Scott powered a home run over the fence in left field to lead off the inning.  Irvin and Bryant both singled before Caroline Young entered the game to pinch hit for Ramos.  With one swing of the bat, Young knotted the game at 7-7 on a 3 run blast to right field. 

Centenary got a pair of singles by Gentry and Patterson before Hancock hit the game-winning homerun to left field.  Lynsi Unruh collected the win in the 10-7 game for the Ladies. 

The Pirates received strong offensive performances from Ashleigh Scott, Kayla Irvin, Jessica Bryant, and Caroline Young.  Southwestern's record moved to 15-8 on the year.

The series continues Sunday with the first game beginning at 12:00pm.
