Early Goals Spell Doom for Pirates

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah scored goals early in each quarter as Southwestern fell 7-3 on Wednesday night.

Shenandoah wasted no time taking the lead, scoring just over a minute into the contest. Southwestern finally answered the goal with 4:32 to go in the quarter as Tyler Downing punched one home unassisted to tie the game.

Two more goals in the first three minutes of the second quarter gave Shenandoah the lead and never gave it back despite Southwestern pulling within one with another goal from Downing just before the half ended. Shenandoah added three unanswered goals in the third quarter and another in the fourth before SU's Elliot Kelly scored a man-down goal to arrive at the 7-3 final.

Southwestern trailed 39-16 in shots and were -8 in turnovers. AJ Cole posted 11 saves in the game.

Southwestern falls to 4-5 on the year while Shenandoah improves to 5-1 overall. The Pirates remain in Virginia to face Marymount on Saturday at 11 am CST.
