Pirates Sweep SCAC Player-of-the-Week Honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southwestern newcomers Caroline Young and Kelsey Kingston were named the SCAC Player and Pitcher-of-the-Week for games February 18 through February 24. 

Young, a first-year infielder from Fort Worth, Texas has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February18 through Sunday, February 24.

Young guided the Pirates to a 3-3 record on the week thanks to her performance at the plate. Young went 10 for 21 (.476) in the six games leading the team in hitting. She notched three doubles and a homerun to tally a .762 OPS (on-base+ slugging). Young also drove in six runs and scored four runs to pace the Pirate offense during the week.

Kingston, a first-year right-hander from Kingwood, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February18 through Sunday, February 24.

Kingston started five of the Pirates' six games last week and tallied a record of 2-1 as the Pirates split the six games. She pitched in relief in the second game against Concordia on Feb. 19 .Kingston posted a 2.88 ERA in her six appearances while throwing two complete games in the Pirates' sweep of Hardin-Simmons. She totaled 34 innings in her six appearances (5.2 innings per start average) while striking out 24 (4.9 K/7) batters during the week.

The Pirates are currently 5-5 on the year and return to action on Wednesday as they face Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio for a double-header beginning at 1 p.m.
