Southwestern's Linda Hamilton Marks 100th Career Coaching Victory
GEORGETOWN, Texas - Linda Hamilton hit a milestone with her 100th win as Southwestern University's women's soccer head coach. The victory over Texas Lutheran University was also the fifth consecutive win in a what so far is a perfect season for Southwestern women's soccer.

Hamilton, who is going into her fifth year as the head coach for the women's soccer team, earned the career mark in the highly anticipated match against the TLU bulldogs. Going into the game, this was the first time the Pirates would face a fellow member team in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) as well the team who is was ranked third just under the Pirates in the SCAC preseason polls.

Despite the obvious pressure of playing in a game that could both keep the winning streak alive and gain coach Hamilton's 100th win, the Pirates moved confidently on the offense. This confidence lead to Hallie Rutherford kicking a clean pass to freshman Alexis Guajardo, who scored the first goal of the game within the first seven minutes.

Already up 1-0, the Pirates kept their defense strong as the offense attacked the Bulldog's goal. Senior Katey Ewton was able to stretch the Pirates lead by scoring the second goal of the game, leaving the Pirates ahead 2-0 before the half.

With another 45 minutes to play in the second half, the Pirates kept a strong front on the defense, preventing the Bulldogs from taking more than two shots at goalie Mary Cardone, who had three saves in the game. With the clock winding down and victory around the corner, Guajardo received a pass from  Whitney Whitehill and scored the final goal of the game ending in a 3-0 victory.

Hamilton 's team has not had a 5-0 winning streak since 2016. They now look to extend the winning streak to 6-0, an achievement that a Southwestern women's soccer team has not made since 2008.

The team will fight to achieve that milestone in a home game next Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. as they take on Huston-Tillotson.
