Women's Soccer Shutout In Loss To Schreiner

Women's Soccer Shutout In Loss To Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates women's soccer team fired off six shots on goal in the second half but couldn't capitalize, dropping its match to Schreiner University 2-0.

Schreiner's Sierra Nemelka scored on a pass from Marissa Wheeler a little more than three minutes into the match as Southwestern's defense gave up six shots in the first half and two corner kicks.

Southwestern struggled against a physical Schreiner defense that committed seven fouls in the first half, getting only two shots, heading into the break down 1-0.

The Pirates got three quick shots in the second half from Romie Reyna, Ariel Mansholt, and Maya Fuller off a corner kick, but Schreiner goalie Jordin Toso stopped each one, finishing the match with seven saves.

Schreiner's Chloe Luna scored the second goal almost 70 minutes into the match, converting on a pass from Alyssa Davila.

Kierstyn Luckock led Southwestern with two shots on goal and goalie Mary Cardone finished with three saves.

With the loss, the Pirates drop to 7-5 on the season and 5-3 in SCAC play. Schreiner improves to 4-8-2 and 3-7-1 in conference. Southwestern will travel to Texas Lutheran on Tuesday to make up for last week's rain delay. They 'll play Austing College on Oct. 19 at 8:00 a.m.
