Pirates Fall Short One Against Bulldogs

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Women's soccer took a hard loss to Texas Lutheran Bulldogs late Friday evening after breaking their four-streak win in conference play.

Going into an anticipated hard match between the Pirates and Bulldogs, the game started fast after TLU player Jaclyn Smolik made the first goal to set the score 1-0 within the first ten minutes of the game. The Pirates would hold strong on the defense the rest of the first half but could not seem to find a lot of shots on goal opportunities.

In the second half, TLU would once again score a quick goal against the Pirates to pull a bigger lead in the game leaving the Pirates to catch up 2-0. However, this goal by the Bulldogs would be answered by freshman Hallie Rutherford, who has been a key part of the Pirate offense, to score the Buc's  first goal and put them back in the game.

In the last few minutes of the game, the Pirates played with urgency to try and get the ball in the net, however, with the seconds counting down, the game would end with TLU walking away with the victory 2-1.

Highlighted players of the game are Junior Mary Cardone, who had a total of seven saves in the box, as well as both Maya Fuller and Hallie Rutherford who took three-goal attempts for the Pirates.

Up next, the Pirates will prepare for a home game that will be against the Trinity Tigers on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 5:00 p.m.
