DENVER, Colo. - The Southwestern Pirates find their mojo and in their first conference game and sweep the Johnson & Wales 1-0.
With Southwestern women's soccer now 2-2 in their season, Pirate Hallie Rutherford with an assist from Lauren Lee scored the only goal of the game in the first half. Southwestern had a total of four shots in the game while the Wildcats took a total of six shots. In the second half, the Wildcats showed their urgency to put the ball in the net, however, the game ended with Rutherford's game-winning goal to lead the Pirates to victory.
Rutherford took a total of three shots on goal and Samiah Varnell took another shot on goal as well. Mary Cardone had a total of three saves for the Pirates defense. Women's soccer now heads back to Georgetown for a non-conference game against Huston-Tillotson on Sunday, Sept. 16. The Pirates next conference game will be Sept. 21 against Centenary.
