Pirates Fall Short to the Patriots in Double Overtime Rally

GEORGETOWN, Texas. - In a double-overtime battle, the Southwestern women's soccer team fell short in a 2-1 loss to UT-Tyler Friday evening. 

The Patriots started the game with the first goal by Kaelyn Steitz, leaving the Pirates down one. Soon after, Ariel Mansholt would answer back with an unassisted goal, tying the game for the first half. Continuing into the second half neither team scored, leading to the first overtime, The Patriots had three shot attempts, while the Pirates had one. With no goals scored in the first overtime, the game went into the second overtime. The Patriots scored and gained the win over the Pirates.  

Ariel Mansholt made the only goal of the night with a total of two shots on goal and Mary Cardone would have a total of 3 saves for the Pirates. Coach Linda Hamilton comments that it was a very exciting, well fought and well-played game for both teams. Hamilton also says that a positive for the Pirates is the ability to come back and equalize the score in a short time period. To see more of the interview please see links below.
